Blog Review: This Young House

This Young House

Far from being the first home decor blog I've seen, This Young House is quite possibly my favourite - it's updated very frequently, Sherry and John, the people behind the blog, seem incredibly nice and manage to make this blog personal and fun while sharing tips, tricks, eye candy and so much more.

Let's have a closer look at this wonderful blog:
What's this blog all about? Home decor and DIY.

Who's behind it? Sherry and John Petersik. They purchased a house much older than they are and it's become their continuous DIY home project. What's more, they've turned their love for home decor into their jobs! (more information)

What is posted there? A lot. There's a huge variety of tips and tricks the Youngsters are sharing (from how to get rid of ants over painting your front porch to setting a table), give-aways, pictures of houses they've visited, a little window shopping, reader's redesign (in which we see how reader's of the blog have changed their own homes), before and after pictures and so much more.

How often is this blog updated? Often several times a day.

What made them start a blog? They say that they "quickly realized that we enjoyed sharing all of our adventures- and misadventures- in home improvement and so a hobby (and eventually a bona fide profession) was born."

What makes this blog special? I think there are several things that make this blog stand out to me. In no specific order: That it's updated so frequently, that it's so open, personal of fun and the variety of topics. John and Sherry both have a style of writing that is amusing and informative at the same time and reading their blog never gets boring.

Wall Tattoos

Wall tattoos seem to pop up in shops more and more and I absolutely love the idea of them. I think they just add to a room, making it possible to use the full space of a wall. Here's some examples:

Day By The Sea

I'm a big fan of grey as a colour for clothes, but only grey gets boring. Here's one way how to style it:

Product Review: Van Heumen Table Clock

Designer Sjoerd van Heumen came up with this "table clock" which, in my opinion, doesn't look all that great on a table- it does, however, look fantastic in a book case. Here's why:

The quality of this product (I have it in black, see first picture) isn't great, and looking at the price (€18,98 - $28), you understand why. The exterior is made of paper and glued together and not the most stable construct in the history of clocks. However, the clockwork works just fine and when this clock stands in the middle of books, it doesn't get a chance to become unglued.

Personally, I find the idea and design to be understated and intelligent, the clock works and it's cheap.
